For a long moment he stared at the disturbing picture. Wasn't it what his life looked like now? Broken, in pieces. Because of him. He tried to stifle the pangs in his heart. With a heavy sigh, he tore up from the image and started to walk back to his apartment.
He knew the way by heart, but something was off, out of the ordinary. He couldn’t pinpoint why, he felt this weird sensation growing. It was in the air. Or maybe in his mind? Was it a side effect of the earthquake? He couldn’t find any obvious modification, despite his scrutinizing look, but the tingling sensation of the wind was obviously different. He had experienced few earthquake during their schedules in Japan before but he didn’t remember feeling anything like that afterwards.
His uneasiness turned quickly into worry as he thought about his two closest friends. What if Yoochun and Junsu went there and got surprised by the earth trembling? What if they got hurt? They couldn't, he wouldn't be able to see them suffer.
Stopping on his way, he took his phone from his pocket and dialled Yoochun's number. The call took hours to connect and his worry grew as he heard the voice of the women saying the correspondent couldn't be reached. Yoochun wasn't one to turn off his phone, even when he was filming, he usually put it in silent mode to avoid the bother of turning it on again when he was done. It wasn't very reassuring. His attempt to call Junsu ended up with the same result.
He suddenly turned around and hurried to the restaurant. Almost running, he didn't care about his surroundings any more. He needed to see them, hug them, to tame this weird sensation he was feeling.
When he reached the building, the door was wide open and the main room was louder than it was when he left before. He walked straight to the room his colleagues had been in and found it empty. Did they all leave without telling him? Well, since he had left himself, they had no reason to stay any longer, but usually, they were taking advantage of the occasion to release their stress thanks to the free drinks and food paid by the company.
The waitress he intercepted replied plainly she didn't have information and probably couldn't be caring less about his concern. Out of desperation, he decided to go to the agency. Even if he felt a bit guilty about it, they knew Yoochun and Junsu's schedules better and would be able to reach them more easily.
In front of the door, he greeted the security guard and walked toward the gates.
“Good evening Sir, this is a restricted area, I'm afraid you cannot go in,” the man said.
“I just want to talk to the staff, I won't stay for long,” Jaejoong replied without thinking.
“This entrance is not open to the public. Do you have an entrance pass?”
Jaejoong stopped and turned toward the man surprised. It was his first time to be asked for his pass. He stared blankly at the guard and realized he never saw him before. It might be a new employee a bit too zealous.
“I didn't bring it with me. I usually don't need it, if you know what I mean,” he said with a forced smile.
“This entrance is meant for the staff, you need you pass to go in. You might enter by the main entrance otherwise,” the older man added with suspicion, clearly not convinced by his reply.
Jaejoong didn't remember this entrance to be for the staff either, but if that was the only problem, he was part of the staff in a way. The previous guard had been more accommodating, letting him and Yoochun go by that door often. He never bothered him about it and he never had to show his pass before. Usually, his face was enough of a pass.
“I understand, but I need to go in fast, I will go by the other door next time, I promise.”
The guard seemed a bit destabilized, clearly not understanding how he could be so stubborn, but Jaejoong needed to hear about Yoochun and Junsu. He wasn't ready to negotiate or explain too much. His patience was wearing thin and his worry growing as time went by.
“This isn't the question young man. You cannot enter without a pass.”
From his words, Jaejoong understood than the man didn't know who he was at all and was growing impatient. Did he think he was a fan trying to sneak in or what? Bothered, Jaejoong took his phone to call for his manager. Once again, he didn't receive any answer and it didn't help to stop his worries. He checked his phone, without noticing anything wrong, but the call couldn't reach any of his
After some times, he noticed the outline of a person he knew all too well and straightened when he recognized his closest friend.
“Yoochun-ah !!” he called, between relief and impatience.
Hearing his name, Yoochun turned around with a polite smile and looked at the man walking toward him. Jaejoong rushed toward him to share a hug. In his arms, Yoochun was a bit stiff. He had a weird questioning glimpse
